The Standardized Testing and Reporting System (STAR) The STAR Program is the California State standardized testing program for all public schools in California. The program consists of a norm-referenced test, the California Assessment Test, 6th edition (CAT-6) and criterion-referenced tests, including the California Standards Tests (CST),and the Spanish Assessment of Basic Education, 2nd edition (SABE2). California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) The CAHSEE is given to students beginning in the 10th grade. The CAHSEE includes tests in English and mathematics. The exam is designed to determine a student's minimum academic proficiency in English and mathematics and passage is a requirement for graduation from high school. Golden State Exam (GSE) The GSE is offered to students in grades 7-12. The purpose of the examination is to recognize students who demonstrate outstanding achievement on rigorous examinations in key academic subjects. Through the GSE, public school students also can earn the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma. California English Language Development Test (CELDT) The CELDT is given to new students to the school whose Home Language survey indicates a language other than English. The exam is also administered to students who have previously been tested and been identified as English Learners (EL). Assessments in Career Education (ACE) The ACE program is designed to recognize students who demonstrate outstanding achievement on rigorous examinations in selected career-technical areas. All examinations are based on acreer educational standards. Students who achieve high honors, honors and recognition on the ACE will receive an Award of Excelence from the state and have their achievement noted on their high school transcript. California Physical Fitness Test The Physical Fitness test is given to all students in grades 5,7 and 9. The test consists of three components: 1) aerobic capacity; 2) body composition, and 3) muscular strength, endurance and flexibility. National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) For more than 30 years, NAEP has served American educators as an information resource, providing reliable profiles of what our students know and can do in key subject areas. The Nation's Report Card, as it has come to be known, is the only ongoing effort to monitor trends in our students' achievement at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. NAEP is designed to help evaluate the performance of our students in relationship to other states and the nation-at-large. Participation in NAEP is by sampling selection. |
