2nd Grade: P.A.T.H.
There is a P.A.T.H. out of "homelessness" here in LA! To date, People Assisting the Homeless have helped over 14,000 people find work, save money, secure housing and empower their lives. PATH is a non-profit community organization whose mission is to break the cycle of homelessness. As part of their Social Studies curriculum, second graders in BHUSD learned that all people need food, shelter, and clothing. They decided to support P.A.T.H. with packed lunches (made by students) and special holiday gifts - personal necessities for Christmas and decorated boxes for Valentine's Day. Some classes collected money, which was sorted and counted in Math, and then donated the sums to P.A.T.H. Official P.A.T.H. Site BHUSD Grade 2 Service-Learning: Adopt P.A.T.H. House Student Reflections: Lucas: I think the person who got it is very happy. I feel good that I did this for the homeless. I feel good that the homeless got food. Jordan: They felt happy because nobody did something nicer for them. They were so happy because I made a good lunch. Some people cried when they saw the lunch. They were happy. Ariana: I felt good when I decorated the box because I did something nice for someone. When I decorated the box I had lots of fun. I think when we give it to the people they were very happy. Alexis: I felt sad because not many people give them food. I hope they love the lunch. It was fun to make it. I hope they like the box. I hope it was fun to eat the lunch. |
