Success Story: School Lost and Found
Ms. Revness' third grade El Rodeo students saw a "community need" in their school to organize the piles of clothing and student belongings in the Lost and Found. Organizing their surrounding environment is part of their social studies curriculum. A new sign was made and the class publicized that the Lost and Found contained lost jackets, sweaters, wallets, and other assorted items. Items with names are returned to students on an ongoing monthly basis. Through this Service-Learning project, the third-graders acquired skills such as organization, communication and responsibility. Student reflections: Britny: "I like doing the Lost and Found Project because we are helping others. One time I lost something and it was really bad. It's good when you find it." Zack: "I like it because if you lose something everything's organized and you can find it." Taylor: "I like doing it because some people lose things and I like to find them." Davina: "I like to do the Lost and Found Project because I like to help the community." Ariel: "I like to do the L & F project beccause once I lost my clothes and I found them." Garrett: "I like this project because I found my sweater." Josh: "There was a spider in a jacket and I found a wallet. I like to find things." |
